TESOL
The Canada Star College TESOL program is designed for people wishing to pursue a career in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to non-native speakers in Canada or anywhere around the world. The course consists of 100 hours in the classroom plus a 20-hour directed experience in which experienced, working ESL teachers are observed and actual English learners are taught. Trainees learn the most accepted and successful language teaching method currently in use, Communicative Language Teaching. Classes include lectures and demonstrations on topics such as presenting language forms and functions, the integration of language skills, pronunciation, lesson planning and classroom management.
Within the academic units contained in the program, trainees prepare and present lessons in groups, and participate in peer teaching exercises in which they teach their classmates as if they were an ESL class. Later, trainees prepare peer teaching lessons alone, and finally participate in practice where they are able to prepare and present their own lessons to real English learners, under the supervision of experienced and supportive instructors.
